G1 Android-powered phone from T-Mobile

Happy days are here for people who hate Apple and have an equal loathing for the Windows Mobile platform and yet find the Symbian operating system rather slow and cluttered, leaving them with not much choice when it comes to smartphones. Good thing T-Mobile has launched its first Android-powered smartphone known as the G1 (also going by the moniker HTC Dream). This unique smartphone concentrates more on its software than hardware, although you won't find yourself falling asleep with the following specifications :-

  • 480 x 320 resolution HVGA display
  • 3G connectivity
  • GPS support
  • Integrated accelerometer
  • 3.1 megapixel camera
  • Max. 8GB memory
  • Push Gmail
  • 5 hours talk time
  • 130 hours standby time

It will retail for $179 with a 2-year contract, and will be available in the UK this November while the rest of Europe picks up the smartphone early next year.
