Hollywood has shown us a peek of what they believe will be future technologies. One of these technologies is a 3D holographic picture or message. This technology has just taken a step into the right direction. The people at Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology have developed a way to display dots and simple shapes in mid air. It does not use holograms, but it does use infrared lasers that are aligned to converge and create small amounts of plasma. The plasma acts as a floating "dot" on top of the laser grid. Currently this technology is in its infant state, only creating about 100 dots per second, but at the rate technology grows, there is a definite potential for this product.
