Buddy Beads for Teens

As part of her Masters degree thesis, Ruth Kikin designed the Buddy Beads as a way to for teenage girls to send messages to each other to "support their need for emotional communication and group identity". BuddyBeads are techno-jewelry items that facilitate non-verbal and emotional communication among group members, through codes and signals which the group decided upon together.  Members of the group wear matching bracelets that contain two types of beads: Friend beads and message beads. They exchange messages by pressing the beads, which send a message as a mixture of lights and vibrations. Read Buddybead05
