If you’re anything like me, you probably waste a good half hour every morning hitting snooze over and over again. It can be really hard to just get up and get out of bed in the morning, especially when the temperature starts to drop in the winter. I know I’d rather stay under the covers! I decided to give the Clocky Alarm Clock a try to see if this smart gadget would be able to get me out of bed.
There are lots of “smart” alarm clocks on the market these days, and you can download all sorts of apps to help you get out of bed in the morning. So how does Clocky stack up against the competition? First of all, the clock comes in a very cute little package. The clock’s available in five different colours, including white, aqua, and chrome. He’s got an expressive clock face and wheels, like a little robot. The time is displayed in Clocky’s “mouth,” with his eyes placed above the digital display. It’s easy to set the clock, which works about the same as any other standard digital alarm clock.
However it soon becomes clear that Clocky is no ordinary alarm. The difference between this gadget and a regular alarm clock is that you don’t even get the option of reaching out for the snooze button with your eyes still closed, because the clock automatically rolls away from you when the alarm goes off. You set the time you want to get up like any normal alarm, and when the alarm starts to beep Clocky will automatically move on his wheels. So you’ll be forced to get up, get out of bed, and find Clocky to turn him off. While this isn’t the sort of thing you want to deal with on the weekend, if you need to be at an important meeting it can be a very useful feature. Don’t worry, you can still hit snooze if you want. Just be prepared to get out of bed each time to chase down the alarm clock. Chances are after you do this once or twice, you’ll be awake.
You can find the Clocky Alarm Clock at www.gifts.co.uk for £34.99. Even if you don’t need one for yourself, you may be tempted to help out a friend or colleague who can’t seem to get out of bed in the morning.
