HopeLine is a special program by Verizon Wireless that helps victims of domestic abuse. They collect no longer used wireless phones and equipment in any condition from any provider and refurbish or recycle them. With the funds raised from the sale of refurbished phones, Verizon Wireless donates both the phones and airtime to victims with extra funding and contributions to non-profit domestic violence shelters all over the country.
It was boasted that in 2005 HopeLine had 850,000 phones donated to them from customers of any/all providers and about 10,000 of those phones were recycled and given to victims that were staying in shelters. Then, around $750,000 was raised in addition and this went to support programs to raise awareness of domestic violence. 275,000 phones were recycled.
Not only does this help those involved obtain phones and keep safe, but it also keeps the batteries and electronic parts out of our landfills. Visit this page to read more on the program and donate your unused cellphones to a good cause.
