How New Year’s Resolutions Have Evolved

As we are getting towards the end of December, many people are taking the time to reflect on their year so far, including accomplishments, mistakes as well as habits that have formed. Many people find New Year’s resolutions clichéd; but it’s a great excuse to start something new, whether it’s quitting smoking or starting your own business. Now that we’re reaching a new decade, we can look back on how New Year’s resolutions have evolved.

Quitting Smoking

Quitting smoking used to be hard for many people, because the options were completely limited to a nicotine patch or cold turkey. Neither of those have great success rates, which is why that industry has evolved since 2010. The introduction of nicotine salts and vape mods has changed the game. People no longer have to suffer when they decide they are tired of smelling like an ashtray. The introduction of nicotine salts allows users to feel the nicotine right away, as opposed to chewing on gum, which can take a while to work and fulfill that craving.

Gyms

For the most part, people realized that it’s especially challenging to stay motivated by yourself on a treadmill. This led to an onslaught of specialized workout places that tend to have cult followings. Whether it’s going on a stationary bicycle for an intense thirty minute workout accompanied by upbeat music or working on your core at Orangetheory Fitness, there are tons of new places and ideas that are gaining a ton of traction.

Diet

Let's face it: most of us don't pay all that much attention to our diet, which is certainly behind the explosion in our midriffs and the global obesity epidemic in which nearly 2 billion people are heavier than they should be — some people critically so. Going into the new year is a great time to look at what we eat and decide to do away with all that fast food and try to eat clean, which means cutting out as much processed food as possible and buying products that are as near to their natural form as can be. Your body will thank you all next year, and beyond.

Starting a Business

Starting a new business is never going to be easy but the types of new businesses are changing due to new technologies and platforms. First off, freelancing and having your own business is different. Anyone can go on a website and offer services, but technically you’re an employee. With enough research anyone can start their own business. There’s a large amount of people focusing on having an Amazon store, which seems to be the best business to start with minimal experience. There are a lot of YouTube videos explaining what’s involved, but you’re going to have to learn a ton on your own, which comes with any business. The risks are high but the benefits, as long as it’s successful in the end, are worth it.

Above all, the new year should be a time of new beginnings — so let’s get going on the path to a much more prosperous you!
